SUNSET VALLEY–At its Aug. 18 meeting, Sunset Valley City Council approved a project to improve safety at three low water crossings.

The city will install barrier gates on Lone Oak Trail, Pillow Road and Sunset Trail that will block the road and light up when water is too high to cross, said Katy Phillips, public works and environmental services director. Council also considered adding overhead lights but did not include that in its final vote.

“The priority is the gates,” Phillips said, adding the total estimated cost of the project is $59,000.

The motion included approval of using contingency funds if needed.
