Hutto ISD named Rick Stone as the school district's first police chief .[/caption]

Hutto ISD announced the hiring of Rick Stone, the school district's first police chief, on Wednesday.

The proposed Hutto ISD police department, approved by the school board in May, is scheduled to include four officers in addition to the chief and be operational by the 2016-17 school year, according to district officials. Currently Hutto ISD school resource officers are supplied by the city of Hutto.

“I am both humbled and honored to be selected for this position. It is an opportunity that very few police chiefs have during their careers; to design, build, staff and command a law enforcement agency from its inception,” Stone said in a statement.  “For me personally, it is also a privilege to again work in a first class, professional organization with dedicated men and women who strive for excellence in everything they do."

Stone graduated from the FBI National Academy and served as a police captain with the Dallas Police Department and Chief of Police for the city of Wichita, Kan., according to a school district statement. He also previously served as the interim chief of police for the city of Hutto.

“Chief Stone and our ISD police department will continue to work closely with our Hutto PD, which we respect greatly," Hutto ISD Superintendent Douglas Killian said in a statement. "Together, we will continue making Hutto one of the safest communities in the state.”
