The Woodlands will become home to more health care facilities in the next two years, with existing hospitals being expanded and renovated, new hospitals being developed and a variety of emergency and pediatric centers being constructed.


According to a demographics report conducted by The Woodlands Township, population in The Woodlands area is rising at a steady pace, with the main age group being between the ages of 45 and 54. As of January 2015, there were 80,175 adult residents in The Woodlands. Adults between the ages of 45 and 54 make up 22 percent of the population in The Woodlands, making it the largest age group in the area with about 17,000 people.


Laura Lea Palmer, vice president of business retention and expansion with The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership, said that these new health care developments would better serve the main age group of middle-age residents. With the many new developments soon to arrive in The Woodlands, Palmer said improved medical access will become more accessible to more residents in the The Woodlands area and also bring in patients from the Houston area.


“These developments are going to make us a more desirable area for residents,” Palmer said. “We are now going to have more options in health care.”


The new hospitals and medical developments will also bring new employees to The Woodlands area, with Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital hiring 650 new employees and Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands expected to hire about 500 employees.
