M. Fatheree Interiors has been decorating homes in The Woodlands and Oak Ridge North areas for more than 30 years.

The store, owned by Miriam Fatheree, her son, Michael, and her daughter-in-law Michelle, started in Kingwood, off FM 1960. The family relocated 17 years ago closer to their home and a new customer base in The Woodlands, off I-45 in the Woodwind Village shopping center.

M. Fatheree Interiors sells everything to furnish a home, from a large selection of furniture to flooring, curtains, paintings, rugs, lamps, bedding and dcor. And, if a customer chooses, the store also provides interior decorating expertise, design and setup. The store's staff also works with new home buyers to help them decorate either a new custom home or redecorate a home.

In addition, M. Fatheree Interiors works with custom builders to design showcase homes. The store decorated the inaugural showcase home in Carlton Woods in 2001. M. Fatheree was recently selected to decorate a Southern Living showcase home in Towne Lake in Cypress.

"We've done them so long that builders hear about us from word-of-mouth," Miriam said. "That is the way your reputation grows in this business. We're always very grateful and humbled that people want us to decorate their homes."

The work with homebuyers and builders encompasses about half the store's business. The other half is walk-in customers, Miriam said.

M. Fatheree Interiors' expansive 10,000-square-foot showroom is filled with a large selection of home furnishings in a variety of prices. The store sells lamps from $100 to $1,000, for example, and rugs that are machine made to rugs that are hand-knotted.

"We hand-pick everything," Miriam said. "We take pride in finding the best items at the best price. We know everyone has a different budget."

In addition, M. Fatheree Interiors has a 10,000-square-foot warehouse for storing inventory for themselves or customers.

"We will store a customer's order in the warehouse for free for a year," Michael said. "From selling to design to delivery, we try to do everything we can for the customer."

M. Fatheree works to get to know their customers to better help them design a home that suites them well.

"We get to know their lifestyle, whether they have children, if they entertain," Miriam said. "This helps us better decide interiors and how rooms are set up."

Miriam is a licensed interior designer and Michael and Michelle are both interior design graduates of the Art Institute of Houston. They began working at M. Fatheree full-time immediately after graduation.

In addition, many of the store's 12 employees have been with the company for more than a decade, Miriam said.

"We don't have a big turnover," she said. "We're blessed with good people."
