The city of Round Rock's Police Department will soon undergo a change in leadership.

Police Chief Tim Ryle announced Sept. 5 his intention to retire from the department in early 2014. Ryle, 54, began his career with Round Rock's Police Department in 1983. He has served as chief of the department since 2011.

"It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Round Rock for so many years," Ryle said. "The Round Rock Police Department is one of the finest law enforcement agencies in the country. We have one of the safest cities in the country, and that's due in large part to the support the police department receives from our citizens, the City Council and our peers in the city [staff]."

According to Round Rock City Manager Steve Norwood, the city will conduct a nationwide search to find a replacement for Ryle.
