Three South Austin cupcake bakeries will whip up cocktail-themed sweets for an Austin Food Blogger Alliance fundraiser July 19 to benefit the local nonprofit The Arc of the Capital Area.

Blue Note Bakery, located on South Congress Avenue, will make about 250 Fredericksburg peach cupcakes with champagne buttercream and vodka pipettes for the AFBA's 2013 Cupcakes & Cocktails event, bakery owner Angela Jiles said. The cupcakes are inspired by Wallaby-Darned, a drink made with vodka, Peach Schnapps and champagne.

"It's a really fruity drink," Jiles said. "I wanted to do something that was using local ingredients. I always like coming up with something new and unique and on the different side."

Blue Note plans to use Starlite Vodka from local company Treaty Oak Distilling to fill the pipettes, which consumers can use to squirt vodka into their cupcakes, Jiles said.

Crema Bakery & Cafe on Brodie Lane will make cupcakes for the event.

Crema opened in April. Owner Jessica Forkner said she participated in last year's AFBA event with her previous business, Object of Confection, and the fundraiser has a laid-back, fun atmosphere. She plans to use either rum, champagne or tequila in this year's cupcakes.

"I just like to give back," Forkner said. "We've been really lucky with how the community has embraced us and our business to get off to a good start."

Sugar Mama's Bakeshop on South First Street will also make cupcakes in keeping with its retro theme, which owner Olivia O'Neal said includes sweets inspired by the '50s to the '70s.

"We're definitely also going to do something like a throwback vintage-style cocktail, like a Tequila Sunrise," she said.

O'Neal said she encourages foodies to attend, mingle and sample products from several more Austin businesses that are supporting the event, including Treaty Oak Distilling, T1 Tequila, Hops and Grain, SugaPlump Pastries, Swift's Attic, Delish, Butter Stick Bakery, Central Market and Google+ Local.

The AFBA has supported fundraisers and advocacy campaigns since it was founded in 2011. President Kathryn Hutchinson said the Cupcakes & Cocktails event offers the chance to try local products and support The Arc, which is an Austin-based nonprofit that provides individualized services to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

"Arc of the Capital Area is doing great work in the community, and we are excited to use our voice to help further their mission," Hutchinson said in a news release.

The fundraiser begins at 6 p.m. at Le Cordon Bleu at the Domain, 3110 Esperanza Crossing, Ste. 100. Tickets cost $35. The event includes a silent auction. More information is available at the AFBA website.
